This month (May 2013) I attended my 4th Social Media Camp conference. Last year was my first year as a Social Media Coach for the camp and I was thrilled to be asked to return this year. This year I also had the pleasure to be a Speaker at the camp, sharing my presentation on Cyber-Bullying.
I love coaching at Social Media Camp. This year I had the privilege of working with people who were responsible for Social Media with companies like London Drugs and Discovery Honda, as well as working with corporations and government organizations like the Victoria Airport Authority and small team from the Regional District of Nanaimo. I also had the chance to work with a really cool start up company, from Victoria, called Rumble. Over 2 days I was able to take a lot of questions and concerns, newbies and neophytes, from barely posting to having a hard time NOT posting. When that “AH! I get it!” moment arrives, there is nothing like it!
One of my personal highlights, this year, was sitting in the speakers lounge, chatting with people whom I have followed and gotten to know online and finally got a chance to meet, face-to-face. People like Sensei Marketing Partner and author of “Influence Marketing“, Sam Fiorella, Writer, Speaker and Blogger Mike Vardy and the “Queen of Facebook”, Mari Smith. To sit and have amazing conversations with these people who I greatly respect and follow, was invaluable. I also had a chance to meet and chat with my technology hero, Steve Dotto (yes, I had a serious ‘Fan Boy’ moment!).
Most of all, I got to catch up with a number of long time friends and Social Media peers, like newly published author of Twitter for Skeptics (and now Award Winning Editor of Sprout Insights), Don Power, who was responsible for getting me into the Social Media business world in the first place.
